Towelling, terry cloth or cotton terry is soft and absorbent. Developed in the early 19th century to improve absorption and comfort in bedding and toiletries, it is derived from cotton. The cotton threads are woven in loops to create a soft surface. Its thickness is determined by the number of loops per square inch, influencing its absorbency.
