Do you really know how to prepare your fabric for sewing?
Here, we tell you everything!
So follow Zoe's advice and sewing will soon have no secrets for you.
Tip # 1 => SURPRISE THE EDGE OF YOUR FABRIC
All fabrics do not necessarily need to be serged but many tissues are weaving.
In order to prevent your fabric from fraying in the early stages of preparation, it is highly advisable to top off the cut-off edges of your fabric.
Of course, our cuts in store are as clean as possible.
But even at home, just hang a piece of fabric from the cutting edge so that it drives the others and everything goes in tatters!
We will start by "sewing" the cutting edge so that it stays firmly in place!
For this, you can use a zigzag stitch with your classic presser foot or an overlock foot if you have one.
The zigzag stitches alternate the piqué inside the fabric and outside the fabric.
Tip # 2 => WASH YOUR FABRIC
If you do not prepare your fabric before cutting and sewing, you risk depending on the chosen fabrics to have big surprises after the first washing machine.
Indeed, tissues can be washed out at the first wash and this will avoid the disappointment of not having the right colors after making your assembly.
The tissues can especially shrink at the first wash!
Depending on the direction of the fibers of your fabric on your realization, the cut can then completely change.
It is therefore strongly advisable to wash your fabric before cutting it with your boss.
=> Always plan to order 15% extra fabric to avoid being too short!
Tip # 3 => IRON YOUR FABRIC
If your fabric allows it, it is also advisable to iron it before cutting it with your boss. The layout will be more precise!
