Fleece was developed and patented in the 1970s by Malden Mills. Made from synthetic fibres such as polyester, it is light, warm and breathable, perfect for outerwear and sportswear. Its name comes from its original use in the polar regions. Popular since the 1980s, fleece is used in winter clothing and outdoor equipment. Environmentally friendly, it is also considered an ethical alternative to fur.
